A float tank—otherwise known as a flotation tank, sensory deprivation tank, or float pod—is a soundless tank filled with Epsom salt and water heated to your body’s temperature. Floating in this tank provides an experience of sensory deprivation through the absence of sound and total weightlessness.
The high concentration of salt, combined with body temperature water, creates a buoyant effect that is completely safe. The tank is large enough to allow plenty of room for you and/ or a partner to float freely without any external contact. Are you worried about feeling claustrophobic? Our float therapy tank near Tampa, FL tank does not have a cover and is larger than most other floating tanks.
Flotation therapy at Amani MedSpa offers a unique, meditative experience with numerous benefits for the mind and body. The float tank environment allows the body to fully relax, with zero gravity. This can lead to increased physical wellness and a heightened mental state.
Floating, also known as Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (REST), can potentially give you the following benefits:
The effects and benefits of flotation therapy are unique to each individual and may require several sessions to get the full effect.
We recommend a 60-minute session. Once you’ve become familiarized with the environment, you’ll have a better idea of what works best for you.
How often you float is entirely up to you. Just like any other kind of wellness tool—such as massage, yoga, or meditation—flotation therapy can offer a sense of deep relaxation amidst stressful life events.
Float therapy can be a positive and rewarding experience for anyone, but there are a few things you should know before floating in a sensory deprivation tank. It’s common for those experiencing float therapy for the first time to initially have some anxiety about their session. Many of us have not experienced a weightless, soundless state since we were in our mother’s womb.
It’s important to remember that you cannot drown during float therapy, even if you fall asleep. The tank is only filled with about 10 inches of water, and the salt composition makes it impossible to sink or roll over from your back. Feel free to try different positions, like letting your arms and legs drift outward and allowing your body to relax completely.
We recommend you wear earplugs during your session to prevent an ear infection, which we provide to you.
Anyone can try flotation therapy, and you can even float when you’re pregnant. But if you have a new tattoo, an open wound, menstruating, or any diarrhea, you will be rescheduled.
Avoid caffeine a few hours before your float.
Avoid floating on an empty stomach.
Avoid shaving or waxing or with a fresh tattoo, as the salt used in our tank can irritate the skin.
Avoid wearing contact lenses while floating and avoid reinserting them at least one hour after your appointment.
Arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled float session.
If your hair has recently been dyed, please be sure to wash it several times before your float session.
Bring your bathing suit to wear while floating.
Undress into your bathing suit or put on your bathing suit.
Take a shower and wash your body and hair (products provided by us) before entering the float tank. Avoid conditioning your hair.
Insert the earplugs
If you have any cuts, cover them with a thin amount of petroleum jelly, which we provide.
Step up and then down into the tank. Allow yourself to fully relax while being supported by the floatation solution.
Wipe off any excess salt on your body before exiting the tank.
Take a warm shower, wash again with soap and shampoo and condition your hair, if desired.
Get dressed.
